Things are really hard right now...
For so many families in Kenya, this year has been incredibly difficult. With heavily enforced lockdowns, curfews and restricted movement, many jobs have been lost, leaving families with literally no food on their tables.
When the government ordered schools closed in early March, I Afrika had to send home more than 50 pupils who board with us during term time. Most of these children are former street kids whose families already exist on the margins of society. Within a week we were receiving calls from the kids begging to return as they were very hungry.
Thus began I Afrika's critical work at this time - feeding the hungry. With the support of many individuals and groups, we are feeding over 350 families through the crisis. And in partnership with other like minded organisations, we are also giving out 200-250 meals a day to children and adults on the streets.
So many people have been part of this effort, from concerned friends in Australia and New Zealand, along with school, church, charity and diplomatic communities here in Kenya. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
If you, too, are grateful for your own provisions at this time, please consider donating a food hamper for I Afrika to give to a needy family. 3000Ksh (40AUD) will provide basic necessities to feed a family for a month. MPesa your donation to Paybill 507821, Acct: FoodHamper, or find out how to give from overseas here.
